Instinct
Written by AdministratorInstinct is an impulse or powerful motivation from a subconscious source. Instinct is the inborn complex behavior of a living organism that is not learned. These fixed action patterns are unlearned and part of DNA make up. For instance, if you were crossing the street and a car comes speeding towards you, you would try to jump out of the way before it even 'registers' with your conscious mind that a car is coming.
The part of your brain that is associated with these types of reactions is the amygdala. Different parts of the brain receive different signals and make them consciously known. The auditory cortex, for example, is responsible for hearing. The amygdala has its own set of 'receivers' for sensory intake ( information intake). In the aforementioned scenario, it will take in information from the surroundings, like the sight on the car coming at you, and make a decision on what to do before you consciously think about it. While this response is very important for survival, it is very primitive. It's commonly called the fight, flight or freeze response, for obvious reasons. This response makes us our brains function from a very basic or primal level , we use only our lower brain or primitive brain. That means that often a logical solution to a problem cannot be reached. Anger can make many people function from the primitive brain. They cannot think of a logical solution, so they often do something destructive. When the functioning of your brain changes to this primitive part you become less efficient at things and you are able to achieve less too. This is why a dangerous school environment can prevent children from reaching their learning potential. When it is in an environment where you feel safe and secure, the brain goes into a higher functioning mode. This means that the upper parts of the brain are used to think, so more of the decisions that are made are logical, thinking is more clear and memories are stronger. A number of criteria were established which distinguishes instinctual from other kinds of behavior. To be considered instinctual a behavior must a) be automaticb) be irresistible (happens whether we want it to or not) c) occur at some point in development d) be triggered by some event in the environment e) occur in every member of the species f) be un modifiableg) govern behavior for which the organism needs no training (although the organism may profit from experience and to that degree the behavior is modifiable). The absence of one or more of these criteria indicates that the behavior is not fully instinctual. Instincts do exist in insects and animals and can be seen in behaviors that cannot be changed by learning.

Written by AdministratorIn-tu-i-tion (in’to ish’an) n. The direct knowledge or awareness of something without conscious attention or reasoning.
Intuition is defined as immediate apprehension by the mind without reasoning.
intuition is the brain drawing on past experiences and external cues to make a decision – but one that happens so fast the reaction is at a non-conscious level. All we’re aware of is a general feeling that something is right or wrong.
People often experience true intuition when they are under severe time pressure or in a situation of information overload or acute danger, where conscious analysis of the situation may be difficult or impossible.
Your intuition works from the moment that you confront a situation. We have a choice; to either take the intuition for what it is worth or toss it to the side. It is possible to have knowledge without being consciously aware because of everything you have experienced; all the past memories that are stored perfectly in your subconscious. There is no limit to how many memories are stored in your subconscious mind, even though you may not have conscious awareness of these memories. Scientific research has shown our subconscious mind has no filters and it operates 800 times faster than the conscious mind. Therefore it figures things out lightening fast; while your conscious mind is still trying to decide what to do.
Not only do you possess stored memories from your own past, there is also the aspect of genetic memory passed on to us through DNA. This contributes to intuition on a level that is defiantly not conscious.
There is a common problem within many of us. We have the old belief if we can’t see, it doesn’t exist. This contributes to the reasons why people do not listen to their intuition.
We are all born with an inherent capacity to know at any given moment exactly what’s best for us. Our bodies and minds are linked by a complex system of neurological and physiological connections. As a result we can tune into our mind body unique knowledge and hear what it has to offer us. There is a calm peaceful place within each of us that knows all we needs to know about making sound decisions for ourselves. This place is referred to often as that “inner voice” It is the ultimate form of internal validation and allows us to look to ourselves rather than to others, to decide what we think, believe and feel. We are conditioned to ignore the wisdom of our bodies, to go numb to our feelings or to focus on external influences such as other’s needs or expectations of us. Often we allow ourselves to be influenced by guilt imposed on us by others, or our desire to be liked, not judged or criticised. Sometimes the fear of being difficult or making others angry influences us. When we focus on these external cues instead of listening to our internal cues we often are not able to determine what is in our best interest. There is not a person alive who has not ignored that “inner voice” at some time and then regretted it later. Intuition is not always convenient, not always logical and certainly not always easy to follow but is also not very often wrong?

Written by AdministratorMahatma Ghandi says "Be the change in the world you want to see "
Our motives or our life's intentions or life's purposes are a deep kind of psychic energy. It is through our motives that we act in and on our worlds. Do our motives come from a conscious place or not? Some motives are conscious - I want to write books, I want to have enough money, I want thing to be right and so on.
